Whose hometown will stand out in Smart’s ‘Doon Po Sa Amin’ tilt?

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Leading wireless services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is set to reveal the winners of its community mapping competition Doon Po Sa Amin (DPSA).

Now on its 5th year, this year’s edition of the DPSA contest encouraged elementary and high school students to gather unique stories with local flavor from all over the country. These stories were “mapped” online, right in the exact locations of the stories’ origin.

More than 180 student teams from 123 schools across the country submitted stories from their respective hometowns in the form of videos, photos, and multimedia presentations. Out of all these entries, Smart in partnership with the Department of Education and Nokia Location & Commerce will choose only 10 winners — five from the elementary division and 5 from high school.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the number and quality of entries we received for this year’s DPSA competition,” said Ramon Isberto, head of Smart’s Public Affairs Group. “Aside from discovering fresh stories and experiencing the landmarks, people, food, event and products from different locales in the country, we also uncovered the talents of these kids in creating interesting and engaging multimedia content that shows the best in their hometowns.”

This year marks the first time DPSA utilized online mapping technology powered by Nokia Maps. Online tools were also made available, allowing students to easily create presentations, videos, websites, animation, timelines and more.

More than 250 entries have been submitted and shared via the Doon Po Sa Amin map. The said map, which Smart opened as a “blank canvas” for the students to work on is now filled with original songs, music videos, artworks, short films, animations, and more - all contributed by kids from different schools. The map is now accessible via the website www.doonposaamin.ph.
