4,689 students awarded scholarships

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — A total of 4,698 students were awarded the other day continuing scholarships for the next semester under the city government’s Scholarship in Education for Empowerment and Development (SEED) program.

In his speech, Mayor Oscar Rodriguez said the scholars were from all 35 barangays of this city, as he emphasized the need to prioritize education in achieving total economic growth. “There is no other way to attain a better life but to have quality education.”

“The prudent use of funds made it possible for the city to allocate necessary fund for the huge number of educational scholars,” be said.

Rodriguez said that “apart from the semestral SEED awarding, the city has also cascaded its social services to the barangays through the Magsilbi Tamu (let us serve) program that also covers medical and dental services, PhilHealth card distribution, livelihood program loan granting, among other services.”

“I have always been keen in prioritizing education from the start of my governance. We are aspiring to have more scholars to open more opportunities to deserving students.”
