New academe-industry partnership launches iCollege

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -

Publicly listed Information Capital Technology Ventures, Inc. (ICTV) and the prestigious Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC) have partnered to establish iCollege, which offers professional certificate courses on a wide range of technology innovations shaping today’s business, media, government service, and information and communications technology.

This came about after ICTV saw the need to upgrade Filipino skills and expertise to match global standards and attain fulfilling careers. To achieve this, ICTV pushed an alliance with AIJC to develop these certificate courses, which is organized in four tracks: Media and ICT, Management and ICT, Public Sector and ICT, and Information Technology.

Courses under each track include: Powerful Presentation Skills, 2D/3D Animation, Practical Applications in the Use of Human Resource Systems, Social Mobile Customer Relationships Management for Enterprises, Global Marketing using Traditional and Digital Media, Use of Social Media and Mobile Technology for Advocacy and Campaigns, and Web Content Management, to name a few. Each track has a varied listing of offerings and will continue to expand as new topics are introduced.

A specific proficiency iCollege is pushing centers on the integration of social and mobile technology in digital media and enterprise business applications, such as customer relationship management and financials.

iCollege will offer these courses in three campuses-its main campus at the iCollege Building at Espana, Manila, and satellite campuses in Makati City and Greenhills. Alternatively, iCollege will also provide online webinars for each of the courses for those who are unable to attend in person. Hands-on instruction and practical assignments will be given for more effective learning. In addition, credits gained from the certificate courses, particularly in the Media and ICT track, can be used to complete an AIJC Master’s Degree in either Journalism or Communications Management in the future.

“This is a ground-breaking initiative, given our offerings that tackle the latest innovations and applications,” ICTV president for collaborative services and AIJC co-president Angel Timoteo Diaz de Rivera said. “Our curriculum not only presents these innovations but allows our students to actually use and master these technologies.”
