History Campus Tour visits UST, other schools

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The History Campus Tour has began to make its rounds in various Metro Manila schools and universities, beginning with the University of Sto. Tomas, as it introduced an alternative way of enjoying and learning about history to students.

The campus tour, with a total of 15 stops, brings with it a slew of exciting activities, including a film-viewing featuring compelling Filipino content such as “The Assassination of Benigno Aquino,” “Marcos: The Downfall of a Dictator,” and “Cory Aquino: The Housewife who led a Revolution,” and a quiz contest with categories covering the particular school, History channel, and the featured films. Winners are awarded special gift packs from History and its partner sponsors.

“The History Campus Tour will reach out to an estimated 6,000 students in total,” shared Hazel Yap, marketing communications director for AETN All Asia Networks. “The main objective of the initiative really is to underline the importance of knowing about one’s past, and how previous events have impacted the present — through creative and insightful means, which we hope would encourage students to be more active participants in the learning process.”

“We’re honored to be a partner of History for this activity,” said Associate Prof. Giovanna Fontanilla. “Through this, students are given a new perspective on the past, transforming them into critical viewers who now want to be active participants in everyday history — and we’re glad to be part of making that happen here in UST.” Auguso de Viana, PhD added: “It was indeed an educational experience, as the activities had students gaining new consciousness of their history; and in the process, seeing themselves as part of it, too.”
