Ateneo prof one of NAST's Outstanding Young Scientists

MANILA, Philippines - Dr. Gemma Teresa Narisma, associate professor of the Ateneo Physics department, has been selected as recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) Award in the field of Atmospheric Science by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). Narisma obtained her doctoral degree in Atmospheric Science from Macquarie University in Australia, and was affiliated with the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment at the University of Wisconsin, Madison until 2008. She came back to Ateneo in November 2008 to resume teaching. She has since been undertaking projects with the Manila Observatory and has published several scientific articles in ISI journals. Narisma will receive a plaque and a cash prize of P100,000, which will be given during the NAST awarding ceremonies today at the Manila Hotel, and a research grant of P500,000 upon approval of a research proposal.
