AmCham selects 30 students for Business Orientation Program 2012

MANILA, Philippines - The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham), through its corporate social responsibility arm, the American Chamber Foundation, has selected 30 students from across the Philippines to participate in its Business Orientation Program 2012 (BOP 2012) scheduled on April 14 to 21, 2012.

The AmCham BOP 2012 offers the country’s “best of the best” undergraduate students the opportunity to gain new understanding of key global business and economic issues through exclusive company visits and in-depth discussions with senior executives of local multinational companies.

From a total of 121 applications received by the AmCham BOP 2012 Committee, 30 students emerged successful, passing the English proficiency and personality tests as well as the panel interview to qualify for the program. Twenty of the 30 students are from Luzon, with 14 of them representing the National Capital Region. Meanwhile, five students qualified from Visayas and five from Mindanao.

Chris Stolk, chairman of the AmCham BOP 2012 Committee, said, “We have selected 30 great minds to participate in the 10th year of the AmCham Business Orientation Program, where they will be exposed to various critical business functions of American multinational companies to further enhance their learning.”

The final list of qualified students from Luzon are: James Nicolas Cruz, Ray Philip Pine, Francine Nicole Supetran and Katrina Elise Tiu from Ateneo De Manila University; Wendelynn Ang of De La Salle-College of St. Benilde; Ricardo Alfonso Miguel Caballero and Hazel Valerie Sy of De La Salle University; Alexi Gedang of Enderun College; Florante Galura of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila; Josemari Lorenzo Valdez of University of Asia & The Pacific; Lei Martheen Dela Cruz, Alfred Francis Gallegos, Ancilla Marie Innocencio and Raymond Nhil Shappit of the University of the Philippines-Diliman; Marymon Severina Florendo and Ludel Maiello Mier of Ateneo de Naga University; Karen Kay Caranza of University of Nueva Caceres; Charisse Aquisay of Saint Louis University; Riza Mae Grace Sevilla of University of Baguio; and Juluis Macaraig of Enverga University.

Meanwhile, Albert Jan Matthew Java of Central Philippine University; Gelianne Kristy Esteron of University of St. La Salle, Bacolod; and Miguel Angelo Naldo, Galileo Gene Robin and Vanessa Bea Hinoguin of Silliman University will represent Visayas.

The AmCham BOP Committee has also chosen the following students from Mindanao: Zillah Joanne Gallardo of Ateneo Davao; Tyrone Stevenson Chua of Ateneo de Zamboanga; Mohammad Hathimin Mahdali and Halim Noor of Mindanao State University; and Karizze Maglacion of Xavier University.

According to Stolk, AmCham is working closely with sponsor companies in finalizing the schedule of the week-long activities for the students. The students’ accommodations, transportation and meals from April 14 to 21 will also be covered by the AmCham, through its partnership with Chevron Philippines, Peregrine, PMFTC, Inc., and with generous sponsorships from Mead Johnson Nutrition Phils., Inc., Belrewmond Trading, Wells Fargo Philippines Solutions, Thomson Reuters, John Clements Consultants, Inc., JP Morgan Chase & Co., SunPower Philippines Manufacturing, Inc., CalEnergy International, CB Richard Ellis Philippines, Inc., Citi, Convergys Philippines Services Corp., Ford Group Philippines, Pointwest Technologies, and TNS Philippines.

The AmCham BOP 2012 coincides with the Chamber’s 110th anniversary celebration, reaffirming its commitment to contribute to and support the economic development of the Philippines and welfare of the Filipino people.
