GBF and DLSU unveil Gokongwei College of Engineering

MANILA, Philippines - In its effort to advance the field of engineering in the country, the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) partnered with the De La Salle University (DLSU), one of the premier engineering schools in the country. To seal the partnership, GBF and DLSU recently unveiled the Gokongwei College of Engineering at the DLSU’s Velasco Hall Lobby. Present during the event were GBF chairman and JG Summit Holdings Inc. (JGSHI) chairman emeritus John Gokongwei Jr., GBF president and JGSHI chairman and CEO James Go, GBFtreasurer and JGSHI president and COO Lance Gokongwei, DLSU president Br. Narciso Erguiza, Jr. FSC, Gokongwei College of Engineering dean Dr. Pag-asa Gaspillo, and other JSGHI, GBF, and DLSU officials.

“The DLSU College of Engineering is special to the family because we strongly feel that technology and innovation play a huge role in the modernization and advancement of any nation,” said Lance Gokongwei. “We believe that engineers are required for technologically-adept forward thinking. And this knowledge in engineering gives the country the capital needed to build strong manufacturing sectors that will lead to greater employment.” In response, Br. Narciso Erquiza, Jr FSC added, “This is not merely a sharing of resources; it is a partnership that challenges individuals, particularly in the field of engineering, to work with passion and compassion. It is a partnership that seeks innovative solutions to technology, and it is a partnership that pushes us to further explore our research capabilities so that we can take on the challenges of the global community.”

DLSU’s College of Engineering, established in 1947, is recognized as one of the best learning institutions in the country, having developed the country’s first ever solar-powered car in 2007. Since 1992, the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation has been helping uplift Filipino lives by supporting many educational causes under the helm of its founders, John Gokongwei Jr., and his brothers Henry Go, Johnson Go and James Go. The GBF’s other projects include scholarship programs, a Technical Training Center for graduates of various engineering fields, and the building of pre-schools in various public schools through the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa Foundation (AGAPP).
