3 candidates for PUP prexy to be named this month
MANILA, Philippines - The search committee looking for candidates for the vacant presidency of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is expected to come out with a list of three candidates by Dec. 14. PUP regent Edicio dela Torre, who served a stint as PUP officer-in-charge last July, said that Dec. 14 was the deadline given to the search committee to come up with a list of at least three names from which the PUP board of regents will make a selection. Currently, PUP is headed by Edelita dela Rosa, who assumed the OIC post after dela Torre relinquished the position last October. The search committee is pushing ahead with its effort on the encouragement of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) which stressed that it was not backing down from its ouster of former PUP president Dante Guevarra from the PUP top post and its bid to find a new permanent head of the state school. CHED stressed that Guevarra’s term ended last July 5 when he reached retirement age. At age 66 with no valid reappointment granted by the PUP Board of Regents, he is deemed retired from the service by operation of law, CHED earlier said. “For him to be given a reappointment for a second four-year term, he should have complied with the following provision of the law governing the Boards of State Universities and Colleges which is Republic Act No. 8292,” CHED said.
