Filipino students cop top honors in British schools

-

MANILA, Philippines - Four Filipino Business course students, class 2010 graduates of Southville Foreign University (SFU) in Las Pinas, recently finished at the top of their graduating classes in three respected universities in the United Kingdom.

Denesse Cajulis, graduated summa cum laude with a degree of BS Business Marketing from the London Metropolitan University.

Jean Marie Baldado, finishing her BS Business Management course at the Oxford Brookes University, also received summa cum laude honors.

Twin brothers Jonah Mangahas and Julius Mangahas, who completed their BS Information Systems and BS Computer Science degrees, respectively, at the University of Bedfordshire, qualified for magna cum laude.

“Filipinos are indeed globally-competitive. We take our hats off to Denesse, Jean Marie, Jonah and Julius,” says SFU president Melva Diamante, DBA. “Even at SFU, they have proven themselves to be highly competitive and conscientious. Their accomplishments also affirm that the rigorous training and curriculum our students experience in SFU meet global education standards.”

Cajulis, Baldado and the Mangahas brothers obtained their first two-year college education from SFU under the Edexcel BTEC-Higher National Diploma Business Management program, enabling them to graduate after two years with an Edexcel certificate. The Edexcel certificate, the basic requirement for the final year in the Business Management degree at SFU is also a good qualifier for landing a job in Europe and is recognized in 149 countries.

“This is the uniqueness of SFU’s transnational education offerings,” says Southville International Schools and Colleges (SISC) chief executive mentor Genevieve Ledesma-Tan, PhD, who oversees the entire Southville Global Education Network (SGEN). SFU is one of the institutions under the SGEN.

“We give Filipino families an edge by giving their sons and daughters a chance to be enrolled in selected and highly-recognized educational institutions abroad — in our case the UK, USA, and Australia; and allow them to finish these courses and receive their diplomas from these schools even right here in the Philippines. Or they could receive their first two-year certificate here and continue their studies in these schools’ campuses abroad.”

SFU carefully adheres to the standards of its partner schools in delivering their curricula and teaching methods. Some of these partner institutions are the UK’s Edexcel, the largest international awarding body approved by the UK government, International College of Hotel Management in Adelaide, Australia and the University of Sunderland. Some of SFU’s affiliates include the London Metropolitan University; Southern New Hampshire University, USA, International Hotel and Tourism & Training Institute (IHTTI) in Switzerland and Arkansas State University in US.

Added Diamante, “SFU graduates enjoy a batting average of 95 to 100 percent employability soon after graduation, whether overseas or in local corporations.”

SFU offers courses in Business, Computing and Hospitality Management and Leisure and Tourism, including Culinary Arts. For more inquiries, contact the SFU promotions and admissions department at: (632) 8209181, (632) 8206774, (632) 8201404, (632) 8205952.
