P500 cash gift for Manila teachers on their birthday proposed

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Councilor DJ Bagatsing (4th District) yesterday proposed to the city council an ordinance for the local government to give P500 to all active public school teachers in Manila during their birthday every year as a cash gift. Bagatsing called the proposal as “Public School Teachers’ Incentive” Ordinance. Bagatsing said it is only just and equitable to promote the welfare and general well-being of public school teachers since they play a vital role in nation-building. He said that, once the ordinance is approved, pursuant to the policy, all public school teachers appointed by the Division of City Schools, Manila who are in active service will be granted an annual birthday cash gift of P500. Copies of the ordinance will be circulated to all public schools in Manila, Superintendent of City Schools, Department of Education, Division of City Schools, Manila and other concerned agencies for their information.
