MANILA, Philippines - Malayan High School of Science (MHSS), one of Metro Manila’s global centers of excellence in secondary education, is committed to provide its students high quality education that enables them to excel in the vast area of science and technology. Through numerous awards and citations it has received from national competitions and activities, and the performance of its students in various exams, MHSS has gone a long way in its five years of existence:
• The MHSS Robotics Team won the silver medal under the Robotech Creative Category in the National Robotics Competition.
• 9th in the 2010 National Achievement Test (NAT) among Manila private high schools.
• Good performance in the entrance examinations of the most esteemed colleges such as UP, Ateneo, De La Salle, and UST; automatic eligibility for entrance to the country’s finest engineering school, Mapua Institute of Technology.
School year 2010-11 was also a fruitful year in sports:
• The basketball varsity team won two championship games sponsored by the Manila Chinese Club and the City Council of Manila.
• Two players chosen to join two Philippine teams that will compete internationally: Rodolfo Alejandro for the Under-16 Philippine Team and Justin Oliver Serrano for the Jr. NBA Philippine All-Star Team.
• Second year student Pauline Cipriano won the gold in the 2010 tournament of the Philippine Taekwondo Association and a bronze medal in the Little Milo Olympics.
• Champion swimmer Karl Romero won the gold at the 86th NCAA Swimming Championship establishing a new record of 27.49 seconds in the 50-m butterfly event; gold in the Little Milo Olympics, making him NCR’s representative to the 2010 MILO Little Olympics last year.
• Emilia Consuelo Duque, part of the team that brought home the bronze medal from Southeast Asian Soft Tennis Open and Juniors Tournament.
• Other sporting events: Dance Sport Council of the Philippines 2010, 2nd place; 2010 Mayor’s Cup 3 on 3 (Basketball), champion; Filipino-Chinese Basketball League Invitational Cup 2010; Tanny Gonzales Memorial Cup 2010, champion; 2010-2011 Private Schools Basketball League (Aspirants Division), 1st runner-up; 2011 Hardeman Showcase Basketball Tournament, 1st runner-up; 9th La Salle Greenhills Archery Club Fun-shoot; and 86th NCAA Jr. Badminton, 3rd place.
