Minor planet named after Pinoy student in US

MANILA, Philippines - In recognition of achievements as first place award winner in the 2010 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), a minor planet (26740) has been named after Martin Ayalde Camacho of Central High School, St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Intel ISEF is a high school science competition of the Society for Science and the Public and Intel Foundation.

The planet was discovered by the LINEAR Program of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory.

The award was announced recently by Dr. Grant H. Stokes, head of the Aerospace Division and principal investigator of the LINEAR Program.

The awardee is now a freshman at Harvard College on a US presidential scholarship as one of the 141 outstanding high school seniors who composed the US Presidential Scholars Class of 2010.

The awardee is the son of University of the Philippines alumni Godofredo T. Camacho Jr. and Patricia V. Ayalde who are based in St. Paul, Minnesota.
