DENR turns confiscated lumber into school chairs

- Michelle Zoleta -

LUCENA CITY, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Regional Office under the directives of Regional Director Nilo Tamoria, CALABARZON IV-A has come up with the bright idea of turning confiscated hot logs into school armchairs.

As of July last year Tamoria said a total of 300,000 logs/flitches were confiscated by their task force against illegal logging in the mountains of Sierra Madre and Banahaw. The armchairs will be for students in public schools.

Just recently, Quezon Rep. Irvin M. Alcala provided the funds to convert the timbers into armchairs for the schools in his district.

Tamoria said they are now accepting requests from congressmen who would like to implement the concept in their districts.
