25 schools reach 3rd Sharp-MTG math competition finals

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-five schools in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna and Batangas were able to gain entry into the finals of the prestigious 3rd Sharp-MTG Math Trail and Problem Solving Competition to be held on March 6 at SM City North EDSA.

The schools clinched a finals slot after landing in the top 25 scorers in the just concluded elimination games held last Saturday.

Robert Degolacion, Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines vice president, said the competition was unique as the math trail took participants on a predetermined route with numerous stations where they completed mathematical tasks.

In addition, teams were allowed to use calculators which helped them solve complex math problems during the contest.

A total of 62 high schools joined the contest which was held in two venues: Saint Stephen’s High School in Manila for Cluster A and Saint Francis of Assisi College in Las Piñas for Cluster B.

The top 25 scorers in Cluster A are: Philippine Science High School (Main Campus), Saint Paul College of Pasig, Grace Christian College (Quezon City), Saint Jude Catholic College (Manila), Saint Pedro Poveda College, Valenzuela City Science High School, Ateneo de Manila High School, Saint Mary’s College of Quezon City, Xavier School, Philippine Cultural College-Caloocan, Philippine Institute of Quezon City, and Philippine Cultural College-Manila.
