Top WM student journalists named

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines – Elementary pupil-journalists who topped this school year’s individual writing contests during the Western Mindanao Regional Schools Press Conference (WMRSPC) held here recently have been named. Dr. Walter Albos, DepEd region 9 director, said Zamboanga Sibugay gradeschool scribes placed first in five writing tilts while their Dipolog City counterparts topped in four penpushing derbies. The Sibugay champion pupils are Arriane Castor, No. l in English (E) feature writing, Jerome Subibi in both sports writing (E) and copyreading and headline writing (E); Euriel Guerrero, Filipino (F) copyreading, headline writing; and Hazean Agustin in photo-journalism (F). The first placer pupil penpushers from Dipolog City were Roselle Cuenca, news writing (E); Zynn Bayron, editorial writing (E); Julyzza Alolod, feature writing (F); and Joseph Perez in editorial cartooning (F). The region 9 pupil journalists who ruled the other writefests were Mildred Garcia and Elvie Magdadaro, both of Zamboanga del Sur who came out first in news writing (F) and sports writing (F), respectively, and Zamboanga City’s Irish Sta. Ana and Jeshrun Elban who topped in photojournalism (E) and editorial cartooning (E), respectively.
