Pursuing a new career in the skies
MANILA, Philippines – Two nurses, a Fine Arts student and a management graduate with a job that pays well in an international bank. They were all lured away from their initial ambitions by brand new dreams that were, literally, sky-high.
They are four of the latest graduates of ICATS or International Cabin Attendant Training School, formed early this year by Princess Joy Garcia, who wanted to share her knowledge and experience as a flight attendant, and ICATS directress Armie Guiao, who was Garcia’s former mentor and served as an international cabin attendant for nearly 20 years.
ICATS holds a 40-day intense course designed to the stringent flight attendant standards of international carriers. It offers updated and upgraded classes aimed at enhancing the knowledge, skills and attitude of students that will allow them to perform their duties effectively.
For Janelle, 18, a Fine Arts Advertising student, ICATS allowed her to pursue a dream of being self-sufficient early. Indeed, barely a month after she graduated, she was hired by Cebu Pacific two days after she was interviewed.
ICATS conducts daily four-hour classes covering five modules: Personality / Image enhancement, Aircraft Familiarization, Emergency Situations and Procedures, Customer Relationship and Services, and On Board Services.
In addition, ICATS assists its students when they apply for jobs through referrals and additional coaching for interviews.
The directress herself personifies the success and opportunities that come with pursuing a career as a flight attendant. Today, as she runs ICATS, she wants those like Janelle, Joseph, Marionelle and Lichelle to see their future and their dreams written in the skies.
ICATS is located at 1602A East Tower PSE Center, Exchange Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. For more information and to download their application form, visit www.icatsonline.com or call 02-4707523; 0939-5943333, 0932-3706333, 0915-3713333.
