Victory sets Singapore Math seminar
MANILA, Philippines - Victory Christian International School (VCIS), pioneer in Singapore Math education in the Philippines, will hold an exciting learning event designed to equip parents with skills and insights that will help their children excel in Math.
Dubbed “Singapore Math Training for Parents” the seminar will be held on Dec. 4, 2010 at Every Nation Building, in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
“The seminar aims to make parents, who grew up learning Math the ‘traditional way’ become more effective Math tutors for their children,” says Monette Rey, vice president for academics of VCIS.
Rey reveals that the seminar will discuss tips on how to make math interesting for children. Pointers will be given to help kids apply Math in everyday situations and make them realize that there is fun and practical use for the Math that they are learning in the classroom.
“We will show you how Singapore Math goes way beyond numbers and operations,” she adds.
Dr. Yeap Ban Har, professor of the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore and founding faculty member of Marshall Cavendish Institute, a global professional development institute that specializes in mathematics training, is the seminar’s main speaker.
Singapore Math has been recognized globally as the best math curriculum and has been adopted by top schools in the Philippines.
Singapore students have consistently topped global academic surveys in Mathematics, among those surveyed from over 40 countries based on Trends in International Mathematics and Science Studies (TIMMS) in 1999 and 2003. This remarkable feat has gained acclaim for the curriculum created by Singapore’s education ministry.
