-

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced recently the top-performing schools offering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs in the country for 2009. These schools rated higher than 40.70% national passing average set by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the school’s number of exam takers in the 2009 June and November results of the Nursing Licensure Examinations. Among nursing colleges, MDC topped the list with a rating of 69.63%. MDC ranks 3rd among nursing colleges and universities. The top three schools for each range are:

Range 1 (with 1,000 and up takers): Far Eastern University-Manila (NCR) with 1,982 passers out of 2,656 takers or 74.62 percent passing rate; Centro Escolar University-Manila (NCR) with 720 out of 1,002 or 71.88%; Manila Doctors College (NCR) with 704 out of 1,011 or 69.63%;

Range 2 (with 100 to 999 takers), Saint Paul University-Iloilo (Region 6) with 100% passing rate; West Visayas State University-La Paz (Region 6) with 99.48%; Saint Louis University (CAR) with 99.04%;

Range 3 (with 10 to 99 takers), Negros Oriental State University-Dumaguete (Region 7) with 100%; Bukidnon State College-Malaybalay (Region 10) with 100%; University of the Philippines-Manila (NCR) with 100%;

CHED also announced that it will publish the names of the 253 low-performing nursing schools in provincial newspapers. Nursing schools now totals 453 from just 128 in 1991, but many of them lack the required base hospitals, laboratories, equipment and qualified faculty members. Last May, CHED and PRC revealed that there are 147 schools offering nursing program but have performed below the national passing rate of 46.14% for the past five years (2004-2008) in the NLE.

The Manila Doctors College is the educational arm of the Metrobank Group of Companies. Over the years, the College has established a standard of academic excellence in nursing education, consistently posting an above average passing record in the Nurse Licensure Board. Last December 2009, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) pronounced MDC as top 11 among the 419 nursing schools in the country. MDC also offers BS Psychology, BS Holistic Nutrition with Culinary Arts, BS Hotel and Restaurant Management, BS Information Technology, and short courses in culinary arts and caregiving.
