Public school empowerment gets support

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC), Malayan Colleges of Laguna (MCL), the Department of Education (DepEd) and E-Media Program of ABS-CBN Foundation (AFI) forged a partnership to empower local governance of public schools through a “Leadership and Development Management Training (LEAD Program)”.

Since 2007, PERC has been championing public school excellence through its various development projects for public schools in Laguna, particularly those around the foot of Mt. Makiling.

This year, close to a hundred school administrators and senior teachers from public schools in Laguna and Batangas converged at Meralco Development Center in Antipolo City to attend an intensive two-day leadership and management training aimed at preparing school administrators to develop comprehensive school improvement plans attuned to societal needs.

This planning exercise supports the DepEd’s key reform thrusts included in the Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA) aimed at attaining the Education for All (EFA) goals by 2015.

AFI, cognizant of the pivotal role school principals play in the delivery of quality education, works with multi-sectoral partners to institutionalize exceptional school-based management practices aimed at propelling sustained improvements in students’ performance and teacher development.

MCL, Mapua Institute of Technology’s sister school in Cabuyao, Laguna, lends its academic resources to the various CSR programs of PERC.

PERC, an energy exploration and development company, focuses its Corporate Social Responsibility support in improving public school teachers’ competency in teaching Mathematics and Science subjects.
