A university roadshow in 60 colleges and universities to bring to the fore the significance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in promoting and protecting the human rights of peoples in the region has been completed.
The Philippine Working Group (PWG), the local arm of the Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism, met with representatives of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and the European Commission (EC) to evaluate the outcome of the roadshow and discuss possible ways to pursue further action in propagating human rights to their communities.
The road show was organized in co-operation with the CHR and the EC, with support from the British Embassy which has been actively involved in backing human rights and peace building activities in the Philippines.
Almost 13,000 students and members of the academe, non-governmental organizations and government offices took part in the series of forums all over the country.
