MMLDC produces first science digest for students

-

MANILA, Philippines - In line with the Meralco Development Center’s (MMLDC) advocacies for technical excellence and environmental stewardship, the Center has developed and began production of Docu.Siyensya, the first science digest in the Philippines for students. The maiden issue was launched last November 2009 during MMLDC’s 4th Educators Forum held at the Meralco Theater.

Developed primarily for high school students, Docu.Siyensya aims to showcase the students’ researches, inventions, and breakthroughs. It also features projects that have won in the National Science Fair in 2009. It was designed to raise student interest in the discovery, education and appreciation of science, investigative projects, and research writing.

This digest is another “first” for MMLDC, and a first for the Philippine education sector. The digest can serve as both documentation for the numerous winning entries of science fairs and a resource material for teachers and students. This also allows for easy dissemination and can be readily accessed.

Docu.Siyensya is a collaborative effort between MMLDC, renowned science educator Dr. Josette Biyo, and her team of science teachers from the Philippine Science High School in Western Visayas. With this collaboration, MMLDC dreams for a relevant and “fun” way of encouraging students to do science research more creatively, yet systematically.
