UP alumnus given int'l recognition

MANILA, Philippines - Clint Ramos — UP Diliman Theater Arts alumnus responsible for creating the set for the Dulaang UP production of Schiller’s Mary Stuart which ran from November to December 2009 at Palma Hall’s Guerrero Theater — continues to reap honors for the Philippines in Broadway. After being presented with the Theater Development Fund Award or the TDF/Irene Sharaff Young Master Award at the Hudson Theatre in New York City for his work on costume design early this year, Ramos is now working for upcoming major projects in New York. These include Eisa Davis’s Angela’s Mixtape at New Georges in New York, and the premier of Tony Kushner’s new work “The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures” at the Guthrie Theatre. In 2008 he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Set Design of a Play for his work in St. John Hankin’s “The Return of the Prodigal”; and a 2007 American Theatre Wing Henry Hewes Award for his designs in “Madras House,” both plays performed at the Mint Theatre. Other honors include an Audelco Nomination; IRNE (The Independent Reviewers of New England) Awards Nominations for Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing; and a 2003-2005 NYTW (New York Theater Workshop) Design Fellowship. Ramos cites his works on “The Good Negro” by Tracey Scott Wilson and “Most Wanted,” a musical written by Jessica Hagedorn and directed by Michael Greif at the La Jolla Playhouse, as among his favorite projects.
