Cavite grants P11.3M educational assistance to 3,527 youth
MANILA, Philippines - Cavite Governor Ayong Maliksi has granted P11,340,000 worth of educational assistance to 3,527 deserving students under the Provincial Scholarship Program which is part of the provincial government’s advocacy for development in education.
“Through our financial assistance, I want to provide our Caviteno youth the chance to continue their studies so that they can achieve their goals in the future. Our youth are our future leaders and if we mold them to become productive citizens, they can become contributors to the modern revolution that we are waging today in Cavite under the banner of our new advocacy, “Cavite: Be Part of the Revolution!”.
From 2001 to the present, a total of P133,514,680.17 worth of educational assistance was given to 41,912 high school and college students of different schools and universities in the province. Scholars include provincial capitol employees’ children and other indigent students from the 19 municipalities and four cities of Cavite.
The provincial government has also built 374 school buildings, with more to be constructed.
Maliksi is also focused on promoting Information/Communication Technology (ICT) development in the province. In 2005, a memorandum for the expansion of ICT Application on Public Education System was signed between the provincial government and the Ministry of Education of Jeollabuk-do, Korea. Since then, the province annually sends teachers to Korea for a free training on ICT. As additional support, the Korean government sends computer units to Cavite for distribution to public schools.
A total of 81 teachers have undergone training and 711 computer units were received under the program. There is also the Cavite Computer Center that provides free computer education to Cavitenos of all ages. To date, more than 20,000 individuals have graduated from the trainings.
