PHEA convention to focus on social upliftment
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Home Economics Association (PHEA) will hold its convention on the theme “Social Upliftment through Human Empowerment in Perspective of Home Economics” on Oct. 23-25, 2009 at Sarabia Manor Hotel in Iloilo City with Education Secretary Jesli Lapuz as keynote speaker.
Governor Neil Tupas and Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City, along with Dr. Erlinda Gencaya and Dr. Mildred Garay of the Department of Education, Region VI will give the welcome address.
Founding president Dr. Helena Benitez of PHEA which was founded in 1948 to “develop and strengthen all forms and aspects of Home Economics,” will deliver an inspirational message.
PHEA president Dr. Teresa Namoro said the association has a membership of over 6,000 nationwide, some 600 delegates of whom are expected to attend who will be presented by board member Linda Serraro.
Highlights of convention are the needle craft competition among regional high school students sponsored by Focus Global, Inc., skills, culinary and beauty care demonstrations and talks on the convention theme.
The speakers of the three-day event are Dr. Lolita Andrada, Dr. Onofre Pagsanjan and Dr. Julio Baggayan and conference briefings will be given by PHEA board members Gerry Mendoza and Albert Rosaida.
