College of the Holy Spirit to hold open house

MANILA, Philippines - College of the Holy Spirit Manila will hold an “open house” on Nov. 7, 2009, Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CHSM is inviting interested fourth year high school students and Grade VI pupils.

By year 2013, the College of the Holy Spirit on Mendiola St. will mark its centennial, Holy Ghost College started in a small rented house at 663 Legarda St., Manila with five sisters belonging to the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) with 20 girls and four boys as its students. The nuns came in response to the invitation of Manila Archbishop Jeremias Harty.

By the time it had elementary and high school departments, the student body has grown to 4,000 girls. Dedicated to the Holy Spirit, the motto of which the school lives by is “truth and love”, later restated “truth and love.”

On April 5, 1965 the school name was changed to College of the Holy Spirit of Manila. Today, the president of the school is Sister Genoveva Salva, SSpS. The school is not anymore an all girls school, but had included boys into the campus. Courses offered are BA major in communication arts, interior design, advertising design, nursing, medical technology; hotel and restaurant management, tourism management, business management and entrepreneurship, religious and values education.
