-

MANILA, Philippines - This year’s awardees of the Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers will be conferred with gold medallions by President Arroyo in Malacañang on Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. They will also be honored during the 47th anniversary celebration of the Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. on Sept. 4, at 4 p.m. to be held at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium, Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. Makati City. Each awardee will be presented with plaques and cash amounting to P300,000 as a highlight of the Bank’s anniversary.

Eight public school teachers from the elementary and secondary levels, including two professors from the University of the Philippines-Diliman and University of San Carlos in Cebu, emerged as this year’s winners.

The winners were selected from 173 nominees coming from various public and private educational Institutions in the Philippines. The national finalists faced the final board of judges for this year’s Search co-chaired by Supreme Court Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro and Muntinlupa City Rep. Rozzano Rufino Biazon. Also serving as judges were Civil Service Commission Chairman Ricardo Saludo, Sarangani Province Governor Miguel Rene Dominguez, Centro Escolar University president Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina, PROBE Productions founding president Cecilia Lazaro, and Lamoiyan Corp. president and CEO Dr. Cecilio Pedro.

Now on its 25th year, the annual event recognizes Filipino educators for their contributions to the teaching profession, personal integrity and character, instructional competence, and professional and community involvement.
