Off the treadmill

The throne of God and of the Lord shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. Revelation 22:3

I know some people who feel they’re on an endless treadmill. Thy long to serve God, but they don’t know what to do. One discouraged woman told me, “I’m beginning to want heaven already — at least I know I’ll be used there!” She had read Revelation 22 and the words, “His servants shall serve Him” (v. 3).

I wish I’d had the following list that someone later shared with me. It’s called “Seven Things That Can Be Done Only In This Life.”

1. Love and pray for your enemies (Matt. 5:44).

2. Walk by faith and not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7).

3. Love God by enduring temptation (James 1:12).

4. Serve one another (Gal. 5:13).

5. Lay up treasures in heaven (Matt. 6:19-20).

6. Share the gospel with the lost (Mat. 28:19-20).

7. Exercise your spiritual gifts (Rom. 12:6-8).

This list isn’t exhaustive, but it’s a good reminder of how God wants us to live and what He wants us to do.

Are you seeking God’s direction in your service for Him? The best way to discover God’s specific will for your life is to obey His clearly revealed will. It’s an effective remedy for that treadmill feeling between now and heaven!   — Joanne Yoder
