MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City local government has approved three resolutions commending the Commonwealth Elementary School and its principal, Rodolfo Modelo, for various recognitions it received in the past year.

District 2 councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo, who introduced the measures, said the school – one of the most congested in the country with almost 10,000 students – deserves recognition for the awards it received.

The school topped the regional search for sustainable and eco-friendly elementary school sponsored by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in 2013, as well as the special water and energy leadership awards in said competition.

It was also declared the most innovative Brigada Eskwela for 2013, and was later bestowed with the Hall of Fame award at the ceremonies held in Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

“Commonwealth Elementary School, through Mr. Rodolfo B. Modelo, has rendered their best effort to become more actively involved in environmental issues at a practical level,” read one of the resolutions that recognized the principal for his contribution to the school.

“The city government believes that through the effort of (Modelo), the awards bestowed to the (school) is an honor, a distinction, and a milestone for the school’s remarkable achievement,” added the resolution.

The two other resolutions recognized Commonwealth Elementary School for receiving awards in the eco-friendly and Brigada Eskwela competitions.

“The essence of being recognized will not only remain on the piece of trophy the school received, but be the source of our inspiration in the continuous pursuit of excellence and aspiration for bringing more valued services,” said the city council.
