UP exhibit features art from Yolanda survivors

The Philippine Star

An exhibit of storybooks, poetry and movement will open at University of the Philippines, Faculty Center Galeria, March 20 at 4 p.m.

Entitled Bakawan, the exhibit features the works of cross enrollees from UP Tacloban who participated in a series of psychosocial workshops in the visual arts, poetry and movement, in early 2014. Dubbed Sagip Bangon Isko Iska, the workshops were initiated by the U.P. Diliman College of Arts and Letters and mounted by a class of Art Studies Majors (Art Studies 102: Human Image in the Arts).

Utilizing the role of bakawan or mangrove as sanctuary and habitat that nourishes life, the workshops and the exhibit aim to provide space for creativity and empowerment for these student survivors of typhoon Yolanda. Their outputs will be on show till March 31.
