MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City University (TCU) Varsity Pep Squad bagged the top place at the 2014 Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) Games cheerdance competition held last Sunday at the University of Makati (UMak).

This is the squad's second straight year as champions in the said competition, besting the UMak Pep Squad and the City University of Pasay (CUP) Pep Squad.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano congratulated the TCU pep squad, adding that the local government will continue to cheer and support the remaining athletes competing in the ongoing ALCU Games.

“I am proud of our athletes who continue to give pride, not only to their school, but also to our beloved city,” said Mayor Cayetano.

Earlier, the TCU sent 274 athletes to compete against 31 other teams from local government-supported colleges and universities nationwide in various sporting events such as volleyball, basketball, table tennis, taekwondo, arnis, and track and field, among others.

It finished third overall in the ALCU sports meet held in San Pablo City, Laguna last year.

“We will continue to support our youth and sports development to gather more future athletes who will represent our city and hopefully our country,” Mayor Lani said.

She added that the ALCU Games and the pep squad championship are just a part of the sports events that the city will be participating to help in youth development.
