DepEd, companies join hands rebuilding Yolanda-hit schools

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) launched the Adopt-a-School Program in partnership with businesses which volunteered to help in the reconstruction and repair of schools destroyed by typhoon Yolanda.

Different companies donated and pledged support for new classrooms, water and sanitation facilities, furniture and educational equipment.

"We are determined to not allow Yolanda to be the punctuation mark of 2013," DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro said during the project's launch at the state agency.

So far, nine organizations have confirmed donating emergency feeding programs. Another nine donated learners' kits, one for a duplicator, one for cash assistance to teachers and one for a Kariton Klasrum. Twenty-two companies and organizations have also donated classrooms.
