Banat Opinyon

Surviving the AI shock

SENIOR CITIZEN CORNER - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Alang kanatong dugaydugay na nga na-senior citizens (sama nako), wala ako makasabot unsa kining mananapa. Mao nga in a layman’s understanding, nangutana ko sa google unsa ni. Tubag sa Google, nga waa gihapon ko kaayo makasabot: “In the simplest terms, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is software that mimics human intelligence to perform tasks, solve problems, and learn from experience. Unsa man sad ning software? “Software is a set of instructions, data, or programs that tell a computer what to do.” Mora’g nakasabot nako’g gamay. Ngilngiga diay ining software no, mao may mo-instruct, o motudlo unsay buhaton sa computer. Dugang teaching sa Google: Ang software giisip nga utok, o brain of the computer, dili kini nato mahikap ug dili makita, lahi sa hardware, nga maoy physical parts, sama sa screen, microchips, ug keyboard. Ug matud pa,software is the invisible set of rules and code that makes the hardware useful. Anyway, sa iyang column sa The Philippine Star, titled sa atong ulohan sa itaas, si Elfren S. Cruz, nagkanayon: “While AI holds great promise for the world economy, it also holds the possibility of seeing political crises, if not managed properly.” Nga kon dili kini maayo ug dili hustong pagdala, ang AI makamugna og krisis politikanhon. Gi-apply ba sa atong nasud ang AI? Sila ray nasayud niini. “The biggest promise of AI is the possibility of tremendous growth in productivity,” dugang ni Cruz.

Are we progressing economically now? Padayon ni Cruz: “In the Philippines, slow productivity growth has kept average income extremely low. The main reason is that our businessmen have resorted to low wages as a means of competing, rather than investing with the objective of increasing productivity. “Even now, most businessmen are resisting the increase in minimum wage. The Philippines at this point is clearly unprepared for the age of artificial intelligence. If we want to see what the future will hold, then we should examine how AI is impacting the United States today.” Giunsa an diay pag-handle sa America ang AI nga nagmauswagon man sila economically?
