National Peace Consciousness Month
INOOBSERBA ngayon ang “National Peace Consciousness Month” alinsunod sa Proclamation No. 675. Setyembre ito itinaon dahil sa buwang ito maraming significant peace-related milestones and concerns tulad ng: United Nations’ International Day of Peace (Set. 21); Paglunsad ng International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (Set. 19, 2000); Komemorasyon ng Set. 11, 2001 bombings sa US; Paglikha ng National Unification Commission na bumalangkas ng Philippine government’s peace agenda para sa mga rebeldeng grupo (Executive Order No. 19: Set. 1, 1992); Paglikha ng Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (EO No. 125: Set. 15, 1993); Paglagda sa Final Peace Agreement ng Philippine government at Moro National Liberation Front (Set. 2, 1996); at Paglagda sa Peace Pact ng Philippine government at Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (Set. 13, 1986).
Ang tema ng okasyon ngayong taon ay “Ako. Ikaw. Tayo. Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa sa Kapayapaan.”
Kami ng aking anak na si Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada ay naniniwalang dapat paigtingin ang pagsusulong ng kapayapaan sa bansa at nagagabayan ng komprehensibong pambansang polisiya. Iniakda niya para rito ang Senate Bill 926 (An act declaring a national peace policy thereby creating a commission on peace) na magpupursige ng: Social, economic and political reforms sa pamamagitan ng pagresolba sa ugat ng pagrerebelde; Consensus-buil-ding and empowerment for peace at Programs for re-conciliation and reintegration into mainstream society and rehabilitation.
