Huling sulat ni Baron Cervantes

KRUSADA - Dante L.A.Jimenez -
NARITO ang bahagi ng sulat ni Capt. Baron R. Cervantes, Founding Member ng Young Officers Union (YOU). Binaril si Cervantes noong December 31, 2001 sa Las Piñas, Metro Manila.

‘‘Persistent talks of coup d’etat and destabilization rumors continue to hound the nation even as we are all looking forward for a peaceful celebration of this holiday season.

We intentionally ignored said information cum invitation as we do not intend to take part in any plans or efforts to launch any drastic moves against the existing government who we have sworn to protect right after EDSA 2.

We intend to respect the moratorium sought by no less than the President (Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) herself during her first State of the Nation Address last July 23, 2001. Despite the shortcomings of this administration the same cannot be used as a ‘‘moral’’ issue to drastically change the leadership. We believe that there are still other remedies available to this government to resolve the issues hounding them. The leadership only need to do is to simply put these things into motion.

In light of the controversy the democratically organized legal mainstream YOU will seek its place in the Philippine history not as a villain. The nation and the Filipino people have looked upon the organization for the first time since its inception in 08 August 1988 as heroes because of EDSA 2 and we intend to remain this way. Never in our principles or objectives that we intend to cause harm but rather our primary goal is to push for a genuine and real social reform agenda.’’
