Lance Gokongwei named PhilWeb chairman

MANILA, Philippines — Tycoon Lance Gokongwei continues to expand his role in listed gaming service provider PhilWeb Corp. following his strategic investment of P2.03 billion.

Gokongwei has been elected as chairman of PhilWeb’s board of directors after Crisanto Roy Alcid relinquished his positions as chairman of the board and chief executive officer.

PhilWeb said the leadership transition completes the company’s governance restructuring, following Gokongwei’s recent strategic equity investment and his appointment to its board in July. 

“This transition marks a critical inflection point for our capitalization and operational scale,” Gokongwei said. 

PhilWeb president Brian Ng said having Gokongwei step into the chairman role provides the institutional governance required for the company’s next phase of scale. 

“His strategic oversight ensures that our AI infrastructure rollout – specifically engineered to serve the complex backend needs of luxury integrated casino resorts and global platform providers – is executed with absolute capital market discipline,” Ng said.

PhilWeb said the governance upgrade strengthens its position as the foundational operational backbone for the regulated digital gaming sector.

Under Gokongwei’s strategic oversight, PhilWeb is accelerating the deployment of its enterprise AI layer, a technological pivot that transitions the company into an institutional-grade digital gaming solutions provider.
