Fajardo, Tuadles set to be honored tonight

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu’s pride June Mar Fajardo and the late Arnie Tuadles and the eight other newest additions rounding up the list of 50 Greatest Players in PBA history will be honored in a formal ceremony today (Friday, April 11) at the Solaire Resort North in Quezon City.

Fajardo and Tuadles completed the league’s super elite club together with Scottie Thompson, Nelson Asaytono, Bong Hawkins, Jeffrey Cariaso, Danny Seigle, Abe King, Elpidio Villamin, and Manny Victorino.

Fajardo, a 6-foot-10 behemoth from the municipality of Pinamungajan, holds a record eight MVP plums that adorned his 10 championship crowns.

A four-time Finals MVP and nine-time All-Star, the brightest product of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters collected 11 Best Player of the Conference (BPC) awards while making his way to the Mythical First Team nine times and the All-Defensive Team seven times.

The 2014 Most Improved Player also won the PBA Order of Merit thrice and the Sporstmanship Award two times.

On the other hand, the Argao-native Tuadles was a nine-time champion in his illustrious career spanning 14 seasons that saw him donning the jersey of Toyota, Great Taste, Ginebra, Alaska, Shell and Presto.

 Additionally, the 1979 Rookie of the Year and Mythical Five member saw action alongside several legendary figures in Asia’s first professional league such as Ramon Fernandez, Robert Jaworski, Francis Arnaiz, and Abe King.

The well-rounded 6-foot-2 small forward who first made a name while suiting up for the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers during his high school days until college retired in 1992 with 9,430 career points and several honors under his belt that included the 1984 Mythical Second Team and the 1990 Most Outstanding Player accolade.

After tonight’s affair that is in line with the league’s 50th anniversary celebration, there will be another recognition rites for the 50 basketball icons at the opening ceremony of the PBA’s Golden Season on October 5.
