Contaminated lakes and rivers

CONTAMINATED. A popular lake in Danao, Ormoc City, has been declared “not safe to swim in” because of fecal contamination. Human and animal wastes have contaminated the lake, known as the “crown jewel” of the city’s tourism program. Many of the houses around the lake have no toilets.

OTHER LAKES. “How safe to swim in are our lakes or rivers in Cebu?” some observers have asked The Ear informer who got the above information in Ormoc. He (informer) could only answer: “I have no idea.” Maybe there is a need to also check our lakes and rivers (where many people swim or bathe for fun) for fecal contamination like they did in Ormoc.
