Most Patriotic Senator

A fan of movie star Lito Lapid takes pride in saying that Sen. Lapid is the most patriotic member of the Senate. He never speaks English, always in Tagalog.

The Liberal Party is now swamped with Cabinet recommendations. Now starts Noynoy's headache. He might want to please everyone but who can do that? Even God can't -- or won't -- please everyone.

I know of a veteran politician who claims to be a Liberal "since birth." Except in certain periods of his political career when he turned Nacionalista, then later KBL, Lakas, etc. Now he's a Liberal again. "No, I'm not a balimbing," she says. "I'm a Liberal coming home to roost."

Someone claiming to be a tourist called up to report that a few days ago, a Veco transformer located between the Gaisano Country Mall and Montebello caused some commotion, after some people saw sparks. A reader said the electric firm was notified at around 9 p.m. but it was not until around 10:30 p.m. that the linemen (are they called that?) came.

Banat News columnist Kriss Relatado was in Davao City recently for the burial of an elder sister. While there Kriss learned that senior citizens are given the respect they deserve by the residents. Seniors riding in taxis get 20 percent discount even without showing a government-issued ID card.

Kriss also said that at the Davao International Airport all passengers, including and especially senior citizens, are made to pass through the tube when boarding and getting off the aircraft. Unlike in the Mactan Cebu International airport where domestic passengers -- including old and sickly people -- are made to walk on the tarmac to board their planes using the stairway.

There was a candidate for senator who laughed at Sen. Manny Villar for spending millions in his campaign propaganda. "Funny, funny," he said."I spent almost nothing for my propaganda campaign," he told friends over bottles of beer. "The result was the same ... we both lost." Hehe.
