It's judgment day

It's judgment day. What this country will be in the next six years will depend on who's going to be blessed by "Haring Lungsod" today. Go out and vote. And vote for the men and women you think deserve your vote. Or is this a run-of-the-mill advice?

Tomorrow we will know at least two things. One, who's gonna be our new President; and, two, whether these political surveys are worth giving credence in the next electoral exercise.

My friend Daido Ramos Angel, Cebuano to the bone living in Manila, said he's voting for President the man who erected the biggest Lapu-Lapu monument in the country. No, not in Cebu but in Manila where it dwarfs the Rizal monument at the Luneta.

Dick Gordon is the man. Daido said Gordon was bitterly criticized for his erection of the Lapu-Lapu monument but he stood his ground. And had his way. And Daido, my friend, owes him one vote today.

Did you know that supporting Gibo Teodoro has become some sort of a status symbol among the so-called intellectual crowd? I know of some people who said they're voting for Gibo because he is the best bet of the intelligentsia. Yet, some of these intellectuals do not even know the real first name of Gibo.

As part of its centennial celebration in 2019, the University of the Visayas has lined up several activities and projects for implementation ahead of the actual celebration. One of these is the plan to build a Visayanian Village where UV achievers, especially the board/bar topnotchers, will be awarded lots and houses.

These UV projects, including the houses and lots, are good as approved by the university officialdom, except for some wrinkles that have yet to be ironed out.

It says here that a Catholic bishops has appealed to politicians, especially the candidates in today's elections, to "rise from sinful politics." A very timely and welcome appeal. But, sad to say, that in our country today, rising from sinful politics is like asking for the moon. And the politician who does it is considered a goner.

And so, judgment day has come. Let HOPE be the rule of the day -- Honest, Orderly, Peaceful Elections.
