Young-lookers live longer - Research

"Obesity: A World Problem." Title of an article. It's a problem too heavy for the world to carry.

* * *

"Fat or obese children must reduce," says an anti-obesity advocate. That is, reduce in weight, right? Not in number.

My vintage cellular phone woke me up Monday dawn with this text message: "Hon send mo ako load 150 pesos d2 new CP No. 0915-9068542." Grrr!

It's nice to be called Hon, whether it means Honey or Honorable. But not when someone calls you that in an effort to make a sucker out of you.

Have you read that news about a discovery that anyone who looks younger than his or her age will live longer? I have and I now look at the mirror more often than I used to.

* * *

The British researchers make it clear that by "looking young" they mean "naturally young." Not young through "retoke" of the face.

* * *

There are many young-looking people — men and women — who have achieved that look through the magic of cosmetic procedure. Young looking as gift of Mother Nature is what is meant here.

I know of many high society ladies who look 40 or 50 when in fact they are actually already in their sixties or and seventies. Like Nyora Talpulana. She's 72 but looks 50. She gives credit not to Mother Nature but to her jars and bottles of cosmetic and toilet products on her dresser.

Nestor Gonzalve, from whom I bought my first third-hand car years ago, dropped by my place last Sunday morning after his jogging exercise. "I feel good shedding lots of sweat," he said. Although he admitted, upon noticing me staring at his beer-belly, he was having a tough time shedding that fat in his middle.

   Nestor said: "I have not read anything in your column that would make me suspect this or that presidentiable is your best bet." I'm keeping it under wraps, I told him, because my readers might laugh at me if I reveal my best bet.

* * *

"Just whisper it to me," Nestor said. "I'll keep it under wraps like you do. Nobody's gonna laugh at you." I whispered the name of my best bet and he laughed as loud as can be. "Maka-daug kaha na?" he asked.

Seriously speaking, my presidential candidate is one of the underdogs. But morality-wise, he's a top dog. Amen. Amen.
