ROAD RISKS. The Ear heard many complaints regarding the habal-habal drivers along Gorordo, near Sudlon and around JY Square in Lahug. Many have been injured by drivers of these motorcycles-for-hire who blatantly ignore traffic rules and carelessly weave in and out of traffic. An IT expert was nearly run over by one of these habal-habals. He told The Ear, “Kinsa man ang mo-control aning mga habal-habal drivers? Ang CITOM o ang barangay? Gipasagdan ra man ni sila nga magpatara. Daghan ming mga silingan ug ilang mga anak nga nangligsan ani nila. Kung dili ni nila ma-control, bisan ma-regulate lang unta.”
TRAFFIC MENACE. Another reader said that these habal-habal drivers are a menace on the road and to private vehicle owners. She said that these drivers would block the road and would drive recklessly, often scratching the paint off private vehicles who dare to get too close to them. She said, “Akong SUV, kapila na ma-scratch kay mokalit man sila’g bag-id sa sakyanan, unya dili sila magbantay. Alkansi mi kay mahal among sakyanan. Wa may nakabadlong ani nila uy.”
