"Rido" in Maguindanao

BLOODY POLITICS. The massacre in Maguindanao of almost 50 people, including 26 mediamen was described as “most bloody” by political and church leaders in the country. Media practitioners all over the country were shocked at the massacre that happened. A mediaman said, “Grabe ka bloody ang politics sa atong nasud. Hakog sa gahum ang mga politiko. Laliman ka’g mopatay ka og daghang tawo, para lang sa politika? It’s inhuman.”

RIDO. A mediaman who used to be assigned in Mindanao said that the massacre that happened in Maguindanao is called “Rido,” a term used in Mindanao for warring families who kill each other until the last member of the family clan is dead. He said, “Rido man gyud ang nahitabo sa Maguindanao ba. Hutdanay gyud na sa angkan.”
