Sentenced to death for graft

I asked a friend what’s the best “negosyo” to get into these days. Without a moment’s hesitation, he said: Pagtukod og religion... Unya paghimog imong interpretasyon sa Bibliya.”

I just shook my head and shrugged my shoulders. “Makagaba man nang negosyoha,” I said. “Wa man lagi gaba-i nang uban diha,” he said.

A Chinese government officials has been meted the death penalty by the court after he was found guilty of corruption that included bribery and extortion. Couldn’t happen in RP. I mean the death penalty, not the corruption.

In the United States, they have the Department of Children and Families. This department, according to my Pinay source in San Francisco, Calif... grants welfare (financial help) to indigents who are granted $300 (that’s roughly P14,000) per child per month. Babies are indeed very good means of income/livelihood up to the age of 18.

That’s one proof of what they say about America being the wealthiest nation in the world. In this connection I just read somewhere that the US central bank is ready and able to shell out trillions of dollars to bail out US banks and solve the problem of economic recession in that country.

With my little understanding of the global economic slowdown that has badly affected the Philippines, I feel that we would be benefited should the US government succeed in reining in its recession problem. Remember that RP exports go largely to the US.

E-mail from John of LA, Calif.: “Cebuano ko dinhi sa Amerika. I read in your newspaper online that the Filipino senators are trying to make things tough for the World Bank after the WB exposed the corruption in the bidding of road projects funded by WB. Isn’t this a shame? The WB exposed the corruption, now our lawmakers want to investigate the WB as if this prestigious bank is the one involved in the corruption.”

Phoned-in by Ervin Nolasco of Mambaling: “Sir Jabat, please urge the police to always keep an eye on the portion of Natalio Bacalso ave. from E-Mall up to the Citilink terminal. Mao ning lugar sa mga snatcher ug holdaper. Kinahanglan nga patrolyahan ning dapita sa mga polis labi na panahon sa kilum-kilum.”

Actually, this is not the first phone-in report I got from readers on the snatchers operating in the area mentioned by reader Ervin Nolasco. Maybe there is need for the cops to take heed of Mr. Nolasco’s suggestion.
