US ELECTION. It’s presidential election day in the US today. The interest in this political exercise has spread all over the globe, including the Philippines. In RP, in fact, betting has been going on between the two main contenders for the post - Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain. The betting is on the so-called “partida” arrangement (to borrow the word of the gamblers). Because Obama is heavily favored, a P1,000 bet on him would win only P500 or less. “Kristos” or bet solicitors are making the rounds, places like hotels, offices and the two gambling casinos, according to an Ear informer.
DISPATCHERS. An Ear reader called up Friday to ask just one question: “Unsa may nahimo sa Citom ug kapolisan bahin ining nagpadayong pagbali sa balaud sa mga dispatser diha sa mga paradahan sa PUJ ug taxi?” The reader said he was just asking. “I don’t expect an answer. I just want to prick the conscience of our so-called lawmen,” he said.
