Abraham Lincoln was once quoted as saying: "Seriously, I do not think I am fit for the presidency." Is there a Pinoy politician who can say this after being prodded to seek the presidency?
Harry S. Truman was also quoted once: "The White House is the finest prison in the world." So is Malacañang?
Followers of Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas Sr. are crying "police brutality" in the implementation by cops of the Ombudsman's order dismissing the guvnor. Some TV footage showed brute force was used indeed by cops. This is sad. But the opposition leaders are making the thumbs up sign. This is additional election ammo against Ate Glo.
I had a landline phone conversation with someone in the US last Friday. I told her about the big success of the ASEAN and East Asia summit meetings in Cebu where heads of state of the 10 ASEAN countries and six from East Asia attended. Big deal, these two summits, I said.
"Diay ba?" she said. "The TV network in our place didn't tell us about these summit meetings. "The Philippine news they gave us in good measure was the killing of the Abu Sayyaf terrorist named Solaiman by Filipino Marines with the help of US troops." So what happened to the international media coverage of the two events which we in Cebu consider historical happenings?
I dialed our office phone Friday evening. It was busy. I redialed the same number and the voice at the other end of the line said? "The number you dialed is under repair." I dialed again and our office answered. Later on, when I dialed once more, the recording again said: "The number you dialed is under repair." How could that be when just minutes before I was able to contact our office? The phone company's answering machine needs repair!
I would like to share with you a beautiful text message I just received from my sister Alma. It says: "Today, before you think of saying any unkind word, think of someone who think of someone who has nothing to seat... before you complain about life, think of someone who went too early to Heaven... and when you are tired and complaining about your job, think of the unemployed, the disabled and those seem to get you down, put a smile on your face and thank God you are alive ... Life is a gift, live it well."
The message is clear as crystal. No need to elaborate on it. And no need for me to tell you that this is what a good life is all about.
