Eating your words won't give you indigestion

One newspaper says that despite the loans, Mayor Ouano assures everyone that taxes in Mandaue will remain s-Teddy.

It says here that an actress has confessed that she seldom wears an underwear. The confession was made to a movie reporter. Not to a priest.

A beautician was shot dead while at work in a Metro Manila beauty parlor. Killed in the line of beauty, er, duty.

"GMA To Eat Her Words - Opposition" - Headline. Not to worry, Ate Glo. The great Winston Churchill said he ate his words many times and never got indigestion.

We are celebrating World Animals Month. Speaking of this celebration, the dog is the most celebrated of all animals. The dog is man's best friend. When man gets hungry, his best friend feeds him with his meat.

The policeman who went to a motel using a brand new police patrol car said he was forced to do it because he wanted to use a toilet of the motel. He claimed to be suffering from diarrhea. But it has been found out that this cop has brought a woman in that motel using the police car many times.

"Sa ato pa, iyang gihimong kasilyas ang motel. Everytime kalibangon siya anha siya dagan?" Nick P. my friend said.

"Ha, ha, ha! Tingali, Bay," I said, adding: "Tingalig hugaw ang kasilyas sa iyang police station."

A police raid in Ermita netted a total of 35 video karera machines. The police say their campaign against these outlawed gambling devices has been going on without letup. Dozens of these machines had been seized and destroyed. But they continue to exist.

"Kining video karera mas daghan pag kinabuhi kay sa iring," my friend and tokayo John Jaspe said.

"Bitaw sa? Bisag sunogon ug masohon naa lang gihapon," I said.

"Hibaw kog nganong di mapapas ang video karera pero tak-um lang mouth ko kay hadlok ko. Matud pa, better a living coward than a dead hero," said John.

Nearly all his friends and colleagues in media have said their piece about Glenn Basubas, former sports editor of this paper, who passed away Wednesday last week while on a visit (to say goodbye?) to a sister in Ormoc City. Glenn's interment is set tomorrow, Oct. 28 at the Mandaue Catholic Cemetery.

Let me say my piece about Glenn ... The last time I saw Glenn was about two years ago. I was about to get into a taxi at SM City's taxi bay when I saw him some distance away and he saw me too. We didn't have the chance to talk to each other beyond my greeting him half-shouting: "Musta, Glenn!" and he too half-shouting his reply: "Ok, lang, Sir!" with two thumbs up.

I have so many pleasant memories about Glenn but I'd rather keep them to myself in line with John McCarland's advice: "Personal memories are simply what they are - personal. They're yours, keep them." But one memory I can't keep was that evening when Glenn got into my cubicle to say sorry for his having been absent from his desk for two nights. He said he had a personal problem that had him mentally clobbered. I understand and I said, "Ok, no problem." The "personal problem" though, I cannot reveal ... due to space limitation!
