NAIA porter who returned $4,800 honored
MANLA, Philippines -The honest airport baggage porter who returned a hefty $4,800 to in cash along with 17 other Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) workers were given commendations on Monday.
Manila International Airport Authority general Jose Angel Honrado handed Jony Villon and his colleagues plaques of commendation during the airport's flag-raising ceremony.
Villon, who works in NAIA Terminal 1, recovered an envelope containing the money which is equivalent to over P210,000 from a parking lot last week.
Instead of pocketing the amount, Villon turned it over to NAIA's intelligence and investigation division which then received an overseas Filipino worker's report of lost cash. Villon himself only earns around minimum wage as a contractual worker.
Honrado told the rest of the airport's staff to follow Villon's example.
Airport staff members Ronald Villanueva, Antonio Alvarez Jr., Daniel Caliuag, Moses Jimenez, Rosemarie de Vera, Shiela Bastasa, Rosalina Obedencio, Edmund Esplana, Christine Tanseco, Desiderio Belgrado, Annalisa Allones, Hephziba Manza, Lourdes Aldolfo, and Jay-ar Obrero were also commended for returning items or cash lost by guests and passengers.
Airport Police Corporals Roderick Mejia, Danilo Inalves and Alex Benuyo were also cited for the work that led to an arrest of a taxicab driver who stole a number of luggage.
The airport official also arranged breakfast for the awardees. - Camille Diola
