Blind Pinay girl sings Miley’s hit, touches hearts

Verns Joven - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - An amateur video of an 11-year-old blind girl performing a cover of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” has gone viral on YouTube.

Posted on Oct. 23 by one George Doton, the video identified the girl as “Joyce Jimenez” – who sang while reading lyrics in Braille – from Barangay Luzon, Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental.

As of last night, the video had reached 312,458 views and spread not only on YouTube but also on Facebook, Twitter and other media sites, gathering almost 60,000 likes and more than 20,000 shares.

The viral video “Blind Girl Sings Wrecking Ball” also ranked fourth in the hot picks list of Yahoo! Philippines last Friday (Oct. 25).

The viewers raved about the voice quality and talent of the girl and were touched by her heartfelt rendition, which some say is better than that of the Hannah Montana star.

Their reaction was in stark contrast to when Cyrus appeared naked on the “Wrecking Ball” music video last month.

Cyrus, who twerked her way to the number one spot of Billboard 200 album chart two weeks ago with “Bangerz,” has sold more than 270,000 copies of her second album since its release.
