MANILA, Philippines - International travel website Trip Advisor recently named Metro Manila as one of the “Top 10 Destinations on the Rise” in Asia.

Metro Manila ranked fourth on the list, behind Jakarta, Indonesia; Katmandu, Nepal and Calcutta, India.

Other Asian cities on the list are Bangalore, India; Luang Prabang, Laos; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Chiang Mai, Thailand; and the Japanese cities of Kobe and Osaka.

According to a Yahoo! report, the recognition comes as the Department of Tourism launches a new international campaign promoting entertainment and lifestyle offerings in Metro Manila.

In its website, Trip Advisor described the capital of the Philippines as “historic and modern, rich and poor... filled with museums, shops, parks and churches, plus enough nightlife to last until dawn.”

It also recommended Intramuros, Fort Santiago and Corregidor Island, among its popular tourist attractions and a list of things to do while in Metro Manila.

Earlier this year, Trip Advisor also ranked Boracay Island as the top beach destination in Asia and the sixth in the world.
