Phl wins 2 golds at Expo

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine pavilion at the just concluded 2012 Expo in Yeosu, South Korea won two gold awards for Theme Development and Creative Display at the Official Participants’ Awards organized by the Bureau International des Expositions.

The awards are given based on the participants’ interpretation of the theme and sub-themes as well as for their display and presentations. The Expo, which ended last Sunday, had the theme “The Living Ocean and Coast.”

The Philippine pavilion featured four pods suspended from the ceiling that mimic glowing corals, the main inspiration for the pavilion’s design. The pods were made of recycled materials and projected visuals of marine life onto the pods’ floors, each one ringed by different colored sand from Boracay (white), Albay (black), Guimaras (brown) and Zamboanga (pink).

The pods showed attractions from Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, and one pod was dedicated to biodiversity and conservation.

The façade, also made of recycled materials, appeared like a sculptural three-dimensional coral wall.

The Philippine pavilion bested ten other countries – among them Mexico, Vietnam and Egypt – in the category for pavilions with only one module.
